Listening & Sharing.
We could fill tens of books with our conversations. But we are not. I’m starting to see there is no need. I hope they will remember much of the wisdom I passed on, but I trust they will remember my heart.
“You will reap what you sow.” (Galatians 6:7)
They may not remember specifics of everything I taught them but they will remember how I made them feel. Loved. Seen. Heard.
Don’t get me wrong. I made them feel uncomfortable too. I challenged them. I scolded them. I apologized too.
“Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy.” (Psalm 126:5)
I have prayerfully cried many tears as a parent. I hoped we will eventually see the fruit. There have been seasons of frustration.
But to my great delight I see right now their utter beauty, character, courage, clarity & wisdom. Forbearance and pursuit of the truth. Pray over your children with humility and dare. Walk by faith. Speak bravely correction & encouragement.
Walk the narrow path. It’s ok to be different, uncomfortable, misunderstood by the world.
Among the silly things I tell my daughters:
I am cool even if you (will) think I’m not. I live a full life that I chose (like becoming your parents) even if sometimes I’m tired and frustrated. I love you forever, no matter what. You don’t owe me anything.
