Ezer

Discussing at length
the pandemic of unmotivated men
unemployed, discouraged men,
I have no answer, no solution.

But thinking of my brother’s success
I remember my mom’s words to him:
“you have the capacity to do more”
“you can achieve more than we ever did.”
Unassuming,
as a matter of fact,
with faith and clarity,
just at the right times.

He became a director of Audi by the age of 23.

This humble strong woman is my mother,

My most treasured gift growing up, always leading by example.

And I had the privilege to spend hours, days, weeks
with her mother,
a woman of very few words
but equally strong,
if not more in some ways.
Mamaica challenged me,
she forged in me mental and physical strength.
And it was hard, it was painful at times,
But she was kind, fair and true.
And I think of her
More than I do
Of any other person who’s already dead.

Ezer,
the woman who doesn’t push you away to rescue you
But sees and loves, believes and takes action
Places herself under your shoulder
as if herself, raising the value of your protection
but in truth, her deep strength lifts you up,
with her whole body.

I look forward to raising such a little girl.
An Ezer for the next generation.

Dear God, please give us strength
to continue on this path,
And joy as we do so.
