Words & confidence

Can you fabricate self-confidence? And if you could, would you do it?

Talking about the past, as we sometimes do, I stop and tell Jackie: “Wow, what an interesting life you have!” To which she replies, matching my enthusiasm: “I know, right?”

Our kids are not victims. They have agency. The way we relate to what happened before time, influence their ability to cope with the past. I think pity has little to do with the life of a believer. Not to mention self pity.

I worry I meddle and I am sometimes afraid of my power to manipulate reactions. I don’t do it intentionally. I don’t take lightly the responsibility of steering the ship of my kids’ life so easily with words.

And yet, as the Bible says, words have the power of life and death. And if that’s the case, I might as well be intentional in using my words to create life, to enable life, to inspire life.
