Self-restraint

When emotions run rampant, how do we exercise self-control?

The more power one has over something, the easier it gets to show self-restraint.
I just watched a limited series on Netflix. The main character encounters his arch nemesis on a few occasions and he appeared meek, humble, “Appeared” being the key word. His time came to elegantly show his true power. His strength didn’t even compare to his enemy’s attempt to fight back. And it made me think of parenting. A parent teaching self restrained when he has quite the power yet he displays patience and a quiet spirit. And as the saying goes: “Don’t yell at your children. Come close and whisper. It’s a lot scarier aka effective.”
