Parenting class #2

We woke up at 6 to go have coffee first with Nathan – and what a beautiful morning it was! At let’s coffee you meet old friends and make new ones. It’s such a lovely gathering spot!

Then at 9 we met with our group of 6 couples and 2 social workers and worked through more adoption stuff: role play, imaginary letters, stories, games and brainstorming. A lot of it is common sense, but you can not bet on common sense when you entrust the life of a child into a stranger’s hands. I went through 40 hours of training before starting to work at Apple. And the training had nothing to do with the job itself. It has to do with listening skills, communication tools, adaptability and awareness. Nobody complained about that part. On the contrary, it increased ten fold the retention and satisfaction in the job.

So why would the preparation for adoption be any less?

Tuesday morning I am picking up the social worker and psychologist to bring them home and have a discussion and dwelling place evaluation.

Then Thursday we have one last full day of classes at the child protection offices.

I am eager and my mind is fully engaged. In all honesty, these steps are only increasing the anticipation … And my heart turns to prayer often. The child that we’ll love for the rest of our life already exists – somewhere. I pray that they are protected and nurtured. And I pray that God will match us seamlessly. I have this strong belief that we were meant to journey thus far, and be where we are, and be the parents of a little person we don’t know yet, in a miraculous way.
