The best season yet. I catch the drifts, the disconnection, and reconnect easily. We don’t take it personally, and we trust the deep love we share.
Is it hard or easy to believe that I have disappointed & frustrated this daughter of mine plenty throughout the last decade? I loved her well and with clear and utter commitment, and we can be uncomfortably honest with each other.
I have cried many tears of frustration because of her as well. And I challenged her to do the right thing always, just like I transparently did in regards to her, to our family, to God.
We talk for hours still. This year more than ever. She seeks my opinion, my company, my advice. She trusts me. And I don’t take it for granted.
My course doesn’t adjust according to her expectations, moods. And I strive to give her what she needs not what she wants.
I get exhausted sometimes. And I tell her I need a bit of space. And she doesn’t take it personally. Then I see her ask for space from others without a trace of guilt. She is incredibly strong and stubborn and unlike most teenagers – displaying an absurd amount of self-assurance and confidence. She knows who she is, in the liminal space of life.
