Living in the present

Everything is going as smoothly as it can. Jaclyn calls us Mami & Tati, takes my hand to help her go to the bathroom (aka just turn the light on and make sure everything goes smoothly), goes for walks with us, lets us help her to put clothes or shoes on (though she barely needs any help), plays with us, imitates us, she even started to speak a little English…

She is a delightful little girl, brave, independent, stubborn, goofy, and gets along well with all the older children.

We finally met. She is ours, yet she is not home with us yet. The “practical matching” stage seems to be the ultimate liminal space. Living in it is hard. Undoubtedly the next stage will have its challenges… That being said, today I am making a conscious decision to enjoy the present for what it is. And in many ways it is easy and sweet. Too easy. However weird our brains are wired, I seem to be waiting for the hard part. In the meantime we can only go with the flow.

This whole week it rained. But Saturday came around sunny and warm. So we took advantage of it going for a long walk and we explored the village life. The idyllic village life! Everyone said hi, and everyone knew we are the mommy and daddy, as we strolled around hand in hand.

The grandma next door gave us fresh grapes off the vine, and made small talk.

So we take one day at a time, making memories, and helping Jaclyn transition to life with us full time.
