Yesterday I sent in Jackie’s passport to the embassy via the free tnt delivery service, to get a visa for her, to visit the states, hopefully at Christmas.
A few days prior I had sent an email to them to make sure I am applying for the right visa. In the meantime I paid the hefty 704 lei visa fee, and sent the stuff. They answered my email within the hour.
One form was at the time unavailable on the website so today I received quite a few follow up calls: about the extra form, about the fact that I could apply for transfer of American citizenship if I was an American citizen at the time of her birth. We clarified that I adopted her, and they are probably proceeding with granting her the visitor visa. (Citizenship for children is offered after two cumulated years of residing in the US).
The interactions I had with the embassy in this process were prompt, kind, informing. I can’t believe I don’t have to take a 16 hours round trip to București.
The embassy employees are very customer service oriented. Ah, it reminded me of how welcomed and respected I felt when I went in for my citizenship interview.
With every call, they would speak Romanian to me, but would slip in English words, then correct themselves. Ah, without words, I felt understood. Their genuine mistakes made me feel like I belong.
