We are low-key people. Approachable as I like to believe. To our delight we discovered that so is the first international couple from our two churches. Our paths crossed many times, even when we lived in California, and they lived in Romania. Now their kids became adults. Brilliant young women. And we traded places.
We became the godparents of their youngest daughter. And we are so honored by their friendship and soul depth and faith. They are young but oh so mature.
Now to this delightful couple, their eldest daughter & her husband, recently honored us with a visit. Becky always seemed like she was born confident. And probably she did. I loved her honest reflection about the mid 20s feeling a bit lost. I did too.
Half a decade ago we entertained this silly conversation plan of our daughters: if we die, Jackie will go and live with Becky, and Ivy will go and live with Rachel. “Sure!” I said. Maybe having such a plan puts kids at ease. And it’s fun to imagine. As they grew older they have said they can’t imagine being raised by anyone else but us.
Our friends share the same path of international marriage, and their pursuit of life with integrity & joy, a beauty of serenity & confidence, a down to earth clarity and kindness. It only gets better with time.
