Are my refuge
My childhood fort
familiar and comforting
I would turn to this book
Over and over
Since my preteen years.
A Solid ground
unchanged in essence
But revealing new life,
Hope, clarity, direction.
Committing it to memory
without trying to memorize it.
It will be a strange journey
To undertake with others.
I don’t recall precisely what drew me
to the book of Proverbs
in the first place,
But I hope to discover
how to entice my kids
To visit for themselves
This source of wisdom.
The first proverb I taught my daughter
When she was three
was Prov 25:17
Don’t visit friends too often,
or they will get tired of it
and start hating you.
Kids had no notion of enough
And as the invitations came
I had a solid ground to stand on
To teach self-awareness.
