Let’s Go Outside

We spent every day this weekend with Jaclyn and though we’re exhausted, it was a wonderful time of making memories and setting rhythms. She is such a bright child and full of energy. One of the things I think we’re most thankful for is her attitude toward playing; she’s not necessarily attached to any one toy or activity. She’ll play with something for an hour (so her attention span isn’t too short), but if it’s time to move on to something else or to come to the dinner table, there’s little fussing. Possibly the best part though is that she loves to play outside! every time she wakes up from her nap, after a meal, or even when it’s dark outside, she says “Let’s go outside!”. Walking up the hill, running after Rufus, or just throwing rocks in to the stream bed is just as enthralling as sitting on the couch with the iPad (and much healthier).

Yesterday we had the first snow of the season. It snowed all day and was quite windy, but still, every chance she got: “Let’s go outside!”. Despite the bone chilling wind and too-thin snow for much of anything, she loved it. I pulled her in the sled along the icy road and when returning, I pulled her backward. No complaining or fretting about the cold at all. Hiking season will be great!
