Outside home

What happens at the grandparents stays at the grandparents.

Luca was on vacation this week and he came to spend a few days at my parents. Jaclyn loves Luca. He is kind to her, and they play so nicely together. I’m impressed with him and a proud auntie. She gives him spontaneous hugs when nobody is looking, except I always see.

I’m pretty certain my parents are exhausted, but they don’t say a peep. My brother calls them little terrorists, as they made confetti and made a mess all day. Also, kids talk a lot. But Jaclyn’s social buckets gets filled outside home. Yay! She initially told me she goes there to play and I have to come with her to take pictures of her playing. Now she says she is fine without me. Music to my ears!

Luca came last night to Bunica and Bunicu and that made Jaclyn’s day! They played so much, and when I returned from the city she informed that she is not coming up with me to sleep, she will have a sleepover at Bunica and Bunicu with Luca. I thought I hit Jackpot!

Apparently, as they went to bed she talked their ears off till the late hours of the night. [Luca blamed Bunica for Jaclyn’s talking in bed]. When she finally fell asleep Bunicu had a sneezing fit and she woke up. Then she said: “I think daddy misses me. I need to go up and sleep at home” . Bunica told her it’s ok, that mommy and daddy are asleep already. But then she said: “Mami will be upset with me for not sleeping at home”, to which Luca responded: “your mom is so nice, she would never get upset with you.” 😉

Alas, at midnight Tata called me and told me all about it. I walked down two flights of stairs in our apartment building and took her home. She was so alert. I tried to figure out what happened. They filled me in briefly. We got home, and I told her she will need to sleep in her bed because daddy is not feeling well. She fussed but the moment I put her down she started snoring. She was SO tired. I think she now appreciates the quiet of our home. And the value of sleeping, until tonight when she will have forgotten.

In the morning she asked to back down to play some more with Luca. I asked my parents if they are ok, and they seem to soak it all up. It’s crazy down there, with Rufus and them, and confetti, and cookies, and jumping and laughing and dancing.

I did not initiate her spending time there. When she was ready and comfortable, she asked for it herself. I am listening to music and writing this while the kids are still there, eating who knows what, and having fun. God is good!
