Yesterday, we woke up excited to get our last in-home meeting out of the way and potentially bring Jaclyn home today for good. However, God had different plans for us. We received a call from the head social worker over coffee that our specific social worker would be too busy today to meet with us and would have to reschedule. It’s hard not being frustrated with the situation, especially when we have to bring Jaclyn back to her foster family and leave her each night amidst crying and asking “Why are they leaving?” It gets harder and harder to leave her, and it feels like we’re abandoning her every night that we can’t tuck her in at our home.
The truth is that God has a plan, and we need to trust it. Our social worker was busy yesterday because she received a new dossier on a child that was matched with a couple waiting to be paired, and she was meeting with the couple and child. When I imagine the happiness that I had when I first met Jaclyn, the delay doesn’t seem too bad.
Today, we will be picking up the final medical papers from Jaclyn’s checkup the other day. That way, all we need is the last visit from the social worker, and the paper that signs her into our full-time custody. I imagine it’s sort of like a false labor, where the couple races to the hospital in the hopes of delivering their child, only to be sent home and told to wait for another few days. Hopefully we can reach our social worker to set up the last meeting soon.
