We’ve taken the peace for granted it think. We often do I think in our society. But we have course corrected with grace, before too late. We enjoyed some new and old stories, and the silence in between. We asked questions and listened intently.
If we expect more from others, and offer little of ourselves, we may find the pot of grace depletes before long.
My brother tuned 46 and I turn 42. Conrad made a delicious cake, and Andreia bakes some sea-bass and sweet potatoes. We hung out for four hours after months of not visiting each other.
My nephew turned 16 and this year he was more engaged in conversation. He joined us and made small talk. He likes to edit videos (like I did when I started working for Apple). I really enjoy his vacation videos. The perspective, the objectives he captures, the light and art awareness. Not self-centered but looking out at the beautiful world he traveled to see.
He also got his driver’s license (went out of his way to start early – as in Romania to drive regular cars you need to be 18). He is polite and kind and reserved. And I like getting to know him and hear him. Much like his younger brother who is a firecracker – smart and quick and funny and kind – and he loves Ivy and Ivy loves him. Cousins are a gift.
May we never forget that the gift of family is not to be taken for granted. Initiate. Inquire. Listen. Appreciate. Don’t offer unsolicited advice and delight in the others’ company. There is room for grace and joy.
